BIOdaTA ZRC - Biodiversity Database of the Jovan Hadži Institute of Biology ZRC SAZU

BIOdiversity daTAbase of the Jovan Hadži Institute of Biology ZRC SAZUThe database was created by merging the FloVegSi and Vegetacija Slovenije (Vegetation of Slovenia) databases. It is managed in PostgreSQL and has a modern, user-friendly interface.The database contains data on flora, plant communities, and fauna (predominantly butterflies and moths, beetles), including the locations, habitats, environmental parameters, number of individuals, sex, and other attributes. It includes extensive metadata, such as geographical information (countries, regions, settlements, rivers and peaks), ecological information (habitat types, syntaxa, soil types, anthropogenic impacts and land use), and species information (descriptions, photographs and synonyms). It also contains records and scans of specimens from various physical biological collections, including herbaria (the LJS herbarium and others) and faunal collections (the butterfly and moth, and beetle collections of the Jovan Hadži Institute of Biology ZRC SAZU, and others).Data can be presented graphically, for example as maps based on the UTM grid, the Central European floristic mapping grid or precise locations; in tabular form including faunistic tables and analytical or synoptic phytosociological tables; and as text (e.g. locality records for various taxa for publication in national and international journals). Data export allows their use in GIS applications, other databases and statistical tools.Access to the database is restricted, but some of its data are also available through NarcIS, the European Vegetation Archive and GBIF.
