Public call for applications for PhD candidates (m/f) in 2019 (“young researcher” grant): field biology
Research field: Biology
Mentor: doc. dr. Matjaž Gregorič (ZRC SAZU)
Co-mentor: dr. Denis Kutnjak (NIB)
The young researcher will work at the Jovan Hadži Institute of Biology ZRC SAZU, Zagorica 20, 1292 Ig. The candidate’s work will deal with using environmental DNA (eDNA) from spider webs in several contexts. Environmental DNA is increasingly used to address fundamental questions in basic and applied research fields, such as ecology, molecular biology, nature conservation, and paleontology. Our preliminary results from an ongoing pilot project show that spider webs are a good source of eDNA from diverse organisms, thus providing a new powerful tool, with a variety of potential applications.
From the candidate, we expect an education in biology, microbiology, biotechnology or related fields, with an emphasis on molecular biology. Priority is given to candidates with experience working in molecular laboratories. A good knowledge of English is desirable.
The candidate is expected to commence work on 1 October 2019.
